Scuba at Down, Bar Black, Miami
About 5 years ago I heard a mix called “Paul Rose’s Dubstep Breaks”. At that time I was listening strictly to DNB and IDM and the word “dubstep” hadn’t made it’s way to people’s lips yet. This was the first I’d hear of dubstep, and my interest was sparked, launching an all out investigation into this new world.
Shortly after Paul Rose became known as Scuba and rose in popularity, parallel to the dubstep phenomenon. His label, Hot Flush Recordings, is one of the cornerstones of the house of dubstep, focusing on the deeper, more lush sides of the spectrum.
Along with DJ’s: Ashworth, Somejerk, Gray Ghost, Munkz , Claro, Gooddroid.
Scuba will be going on at a decent time for all our Monday morning workers!
No cover till 11, $5 after. DOLLAR RED STRIPES TILL 11! Food and giveaways. And of course, DEEP bass.
Get Low One Year Anniversary
Miami’s premiere multi-genre bass music party is Get Low, a monthly event that features mostly dubstep music but has been deviating into house, drumnbass and whatever else the array of talented DJ’s are able to cram in their sets. With a killer sound system, cheap beer and past headliners including DJ Lord, N-Type, Joe Nice, Mala, Borgore, Joker + Nomad, Ultrablack, 16Bit, Machinedrum and this week, the highly anticipated Datsik, the party has really raised the the bar for the scene in Miami.
As mentioned Datsik is the headliner as well as Otto Von Schirach, a musical personality who’s style currently lies somewhere between breakcore, noise, dubstep and Miami Bass. Local support comes from Juan Basshead, who recently won Miami New Times Readers Choice for best local DJ, Ashworth, who is a resident at both Get Low and Down, and myself, somejerk. The jam is hosted by the usual toasters, Jumanji and The Nome.
It is highly recommended that you get to the Vagabond before too late as this will probably sell out quickly. You can get reduced admission before 11pm if you send your name(s) to shake305@gmail.com.
Matty G returns to Miami
California’s bad boy producer/selector Matty G touches down in Miami on Friday, June 11th, headlining the new Friday bass weekly, Friction Fridays.
The jam is only $5 before midnight so make sure you arrive early!
You know Matty G from his smash hit “West Coast Rocks”, release in 2007 on Argon Records. The tune received much critical acclaim and play across the world, putting the Stateside Dubstep scene on the map. With a remix from Caspa solidifying the release, Matty G’s name was thrusted into the low end frequency lime light.
Make sure you get your hands on this free mp3 from Matty G, given away to promote his playing at Fabric, London.
With support from your favorite locals:

Mayday – “Technology”

This free release from Miami’s dopest hiphop band, Mayday, has been out for a few months but my slackin ass has finally gotten around to giving it load in the old iTunes. I’ve had the pleasure of catching them live a couple of times in Miami and they always rock the house with their brand up upbeat-yet-chillin hip-pop stylings, so it’s a pleasure to have the experience captured in this 6 song release. You too can have a copy via their BandCamp profile.
They recently were cast to play the live band in a Lil Wayne video, which you can watch below. If they continue power moves like this, you can guarantee they’ll soon become a household name.
