Get Low One Year Anniversary

without comments

Miami’s premiere multi-genre bass music party is Get Low, a monthly event that features mostly dubstep music but has been deviating into house, drumnbass and whatever else the array of talented DJ’s are able to cram in their sets. With a killer sound system, cheap beer and past headliners including  DJ Lord, N-Type, Joe Nice, Mala, Borgore, Joker + Nomad, Ultrablack, 16Bit, Machinedrum and this week, the highly anticipated Datsik, the party has really raised the the bar for the scene in Miami.

As mentioned Datsik is the headliner as well as Otto Von Schirach, a musical personality who’s style currently lies somewhere between breakcore, noise, dubstep and Miami Bass. Local support comes from Juan Basshead, who recently won Miami New Times Readers Choice for best local DJ, Ashworth, who is a resident at both Get Low and Down, and myself, somejerk. The jam is hosted by the usual toasters, Jumanji and The Nome.

It is highly recommended that you get to the Vagabond before too late as this will probably sell out quickly. You can get reduced admission before 11pm if you send your name(s) to shake305@gmail.com.

Sepalcure – Love Pressure EP

without comments

Sepalcure is a Brooklyn-based duo composed of Travis Stewart (aka Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (founder of PercussionLab) and their “Love Pressure” EP being released via Hot Flush is destined to be one of the biggest releases of the summer.

I first heard Sepalcure’s “The Warning” in Scuba’s must have Resident Advisor podcast and it was a song that really stuck out – the calming piano sample and atmosphere builds as the tune starts. The song rolls along and layers are built, with loose, garagey drums containing the rhythm that build to a dramatic drop; “This is, a warning”, a sample that I recognize from the classic DNB tune “The Warning” which was produced by Grooverider, aka Codename John, strikes a chord and BOOM. Beauty.

The title tune “Love Pressure” is a feel good garage joint that is dense in atmosphere and swagger. Every time I hear this song, I really want to grab a beautiful woman and fall in love on the dance floor with her. “Down” keeps the same pace as “Love Pressure” and adds a synth that sounds like something out of a Hyperdub release. “Every Day of My Life” is a little slower than the rest of the tunes and the drums are really spaced out, adding a layer of depth to the music that can only occur with slower BPMs.

Get your copy of the album on vinyl or digitally!

The tune is a couple of years old but is still fresh as hell. The video is just out of control. Noisia are really raising the standards for electronic music on multiple levels.

Free Rusko tune

without comments

To promote his forthcoming album on Mad Decent, dubstep megastar Rusko is giving away a tune entitled “Cali Anthem”, so get to downloading!

In other Rusko news, make sure you catch him at this years WMC, which starts next week and will certainly save me from a nervous breakdown.

The first single off the album, “Woo-Boost“, which has seen much commercial success as well has having a remix done  by Israeli Bass Boss Borgore, has a pretty crazy, psychedelic-90’s-nightmare-ish video, which you can peep after the jump.
