Sepalcure – Love Pressure EP

without comments

Sepalcure is a Brooklyn-based duo composed of Travis Stewart (aka Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (founder of PercussionLab) and their “Love Pressure” EP being released via Hot Flush is destined to be one of the biggest releases of the summer.

I first heard Sepalcure’s “The Warning” in Scuba’s must have Resident Advisor podcast and it was a song that really stuck out – the calming piano sample and atmosphere builds as the tune starts. The song rolls along and layers are built, with loose, garagey drums containing the rhythm that build to a dramatic drop; “This is, a warning”, a sample that I recognize from the classic DNB tune “The Warning” which was produced by Grooverider, aka Codename John, strikes a chord and BOOM. Beauty.

The title tune “Love Pressure” is a feel good garage joint that is dense in atmosphere and swagger. Every time I hear this song, I really want to grab a beautiful woman and fall in love on the dance floor with her. “Down” keeps the same pace as “Love Pressure” and adds a synth that sounds like something out of a Hyperdub release. “Every Day of My Life” is a little slower than the rest of the tunes and the drums are really spaced out, adding a layer of depth to the music that can only occur with slower BPMs.

Theoretic Records 005 – J.me.J

without comments

Theoretic Records is based out of Arizona and their latest offering comes from J.me.J.If you are not familiar with this label or it’s artists, you will be soon.

“I Can Fly” is a big, synthy tune laced with glitches and wobbles, blurring the lines between dubstep and modern glitch. “Under Construction” is a little faster in pace and sounds like what would happen if one of those construction Transformers decided to battle someone on the dancefloor. Squelches and glitched out synths whiz by in stereo as the tune moves along. Both tunes are solid releases from J.me.J and I am excited to see what is produced next.

Build003 – Cosmin TRG & Baobinga; Ginz & Baobinga

without comments

Build Recordings‘ third release is a big one. Both songs are collaborations with label boss Baobinga, and each tune is completely different, drawing influences from across the dubstep/funky/garage/grime spectrums of sound. The release is already seeing support by Sinden, Jackmaster, Redlight, Mungo’s Hi Fi, Modeselektor, Mista Jam and Mary Anne Hobbs.

Ginz and Baobinga align forces on the first tune, yielding a funky, purple joint called “The Good Stank”. The synthy melodies have a strong Joker influence to them, which is no surprise considering how closely Ginz and Joker have worked together.

On the flip is a steppy, housey tune with some funky vocal edits, the product of Baobinga and Cosmin TRG. “I Get Ruff” is 128 beats per minue of hypeness, garage throwbacks and raw energy that move the tune along while an arpeggiating synth snakes through the rhythms.

To promote the release, Baobinga and TRG have recorded a minimix, getting 10 minutes a pop to show their stuff. Download the mix and make sure you cop the release!

“This is Suicide Dub” Volume one now on Beatport

without comments

The re-launch of Suicide Dub is marked with this compilation from the label, with tunes from Temper D and Balkansky, High Rankin and more. They’re giving away one of the tunes (see below) and you can buy the release from Beatport right now! The styles of the tunes range from heavy dubstep to electro house to breaks, all maintaining a dark edge and offering something for almost every dance floor.

Also make sure you get your hands on this free tune from High Rankin, as per usual, proper heavy business.
