To promote the return of Down, the bi-weekly Sunday event that has now moved to Eve in Downtown Miami, somejerk has created a new mix, touching on a number of styles that he plays as it’s new resident. This mix is an upbeat mish mash of electro, techno, garage and even a little dubstep in just under 39 minutes.

Every other Sunday residents Gooddroid, Ashworth, Gray Ghost and somejerk present deep dubstep, garage, post-step and other forms of future bass via Eve’s newly renovated side room.

Dubporn Records is the child of Miami’s dopest female bass dj (sounds like some sort of New Times “Best Of” category, doesn’t it?) and it’s latest release is entitled “Touch Me”. You will be able to touch “Touch Me”, or download it, on August 15th.

NVS: Cried Wolf (Extended Mix) (DP002) by Dubporn Records

Starting the EP off is “Cried Wolf (Extended Mix)” from NVS, a subtle but deep dubstep tune with a bit of a hiphop swagger in it’s rhythm. I fucking hate the word swagger but I can’t deny when a tune’s got it!

The title track “Touch Me” comes from LA’s Ianna and is akin to something that may be released via Scaub’s Hotflush Recordings imprint, with it’s 4-on-the-floor kick drums and warm organ lead. The remix from Ptr1 is my pick for the EP – the additional percussion, garage shuffle and edits seem to add energy to “Touch Me” that pushes the tune into a new direction.

If you know me and the styles of music I play, you know that I’m not a big fan of the 1 trick pony that most dubstep is. I don’t think all dubstep should be like, something you listen to before you go to sleep (or to put you to sleep), but all of this nonsensical midrange wobble shit is just tired and played. However there are a handful of artists that produce heavy music that I really do love, and still play, such as Borgore, 16bit, Tomba and a number of others.

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of being acquainted with a kid named Ricky Medina from the New England area and was so impressed with his music that I did an interview with him via PA. This kid has been at it for a very short period of time but has managed to learn to make some pretty nasty but melodic music and his style is evolving rapidly. He can quite easily produce commercial grade electro house in addition to dubstep and drumstep, and has done a number of decent moombahton edits.

In case you haven’t heard it, the two biggest rap stars in the world have sampled one of the biggest names in dubstep for their latest release, titled “Watch The Throne”. I’ve pretty much stopped giving a shit what rappers have to say any more, especially when their rapping over a bear that has a sample utilized just because dubstep is “hot” and the “next thing” (how long can something be the next thing before it turns into the current thing??).

Now before you go any color me a hater, I’m stoked for Flux Pavilion, I hope he gets a massive amount of money for the sampling and all of that. I’m going to check out the full release of Watch The Throne when I get my dirty white fingers on it and give it a go around, but I’m just not that into songs about money (maybe because I don’t have any?) and selling drugs (ditto).

The big names on the line up are Andy C and 16bit, both legends in their own right and respected genres. If you know anything about DNB you know that Andy C is pretty much the best DNB DJ in the world and this night, like many others, he’ll be rocking on three turntables, mixing records spanning the past, present and future of drum and bass music faster than you can blink. 16bit should need no introduction either, their influence on dubstep is only rivaled by artists such as Skream and Mala, and have had every kid with Reason trying to emulate their untouchable, “filthy” sound. MC Armanni Reign is arguably the fiercest stateside DNB MC and he’ll be hosting the event. My friends and local DJ’s Juan Basshead, Animal Krackerz, Bats, AlphaXero, Will Miles, Danny Bled, somejerk (me!), Gooddroid, The Engineer, Magoula and others will be representing on the decks, with Jumanji, Nome, Sopheye, Disidente and others rocking the mic.

Our boys at Miami Vapes will be providing visuals/goodies and Smile For Camera will have a photo booth set up to get shots of you in your best/worst.

This is all going down at Eve in Downtown Miami on Sunday September 4th, 2011 and tickets will be for sale soon.
