UK MANTRA

UK Mantra, a.k.a. Tom Hinton, was born and raised in Worcester, England. At only 2 years old, Tom was bought a drum-kit by his father Phil Hinton (a professional musician at BBC/EMI). Music became Tom’s life, he went on to work as a pro session drummer. Jazz, classical, reggae, funk, and rock are the styles he was most familiar with, it wasn’t until his mid-teens he was introduced to Drum’n'Bass- Blown away by this fast paced dance music, that incorporated all the styles Tom loved, he immediately started buying vinyl, got some turntables… and learned how to spin! Understanding music, and being a drummer was a huge help- it wasn’t long before Tom mastered mixing, scratching, and all the techniques involved in DJing.

DJ Mantra, started out DJing house parties, soon Mantra was DJing, and supporting big names in venues around Worcester, Birmingham, and Bristol. In 2005, Tom’s drumming work brought him to Miami. Seeing much more job opportunities as a session-drummer- he stayed in Miami. Not knowing much about the US DnB scene, Mantra was expecting to be a ‘bedroom DJ’ – he shipped over his records…. but was pleasantly surprised to find a great, underground scene in Miami. It wasn’t long before Mantra was DJing clubs, and parties around the US, meeting great friends, and DJs along the way. Currently Mantra is regularly DJing nights, working on the Digital Felon label, and working hard on his music production in DnB, Dubstep, and other electronic genres.

Mantra has supported the likes of Nicky Blackmarket, Ray Keith, JJ Frost, Goldie, TC, High Contrast, A-Sides, Silver, Mistress Mo, Shy FX, Benny Page, G-Dub, Black Sun Empire, Die, Krust, and Garry K. At venues: AIR (birmingham), Custard Factory (Birmingham), Timbuk2 (Bristol), Arc Bar (Bristol), The Croft (Bristol), Vibe (worcester), Black Sheep (Miami).
