Sopheye

Sopheye is an emcee, vocalist and b-girl who has loved music from birth. Her love for the Bangles’ “Walk Like An Egyptian” had her dancing her her diapers while clutching the coffee table for dear love. Music, Sophie says, “has always been there for me – it’s an amazing outlet, an escape”. She started writing her own songs in the sixth grade. “The knowledge I gained form poetry classes and choir helped me torn my poetry into my songs. I spent the last three years of high school as part of the S.T.A.R. Academy Theatre Magnet programe at Krop High School.” From that experience, Sophie explains, she was able to enhance her stage presence and performance.

After countless house party jams and freestyles sessions, Sopheye began working with international talent such as Baby Bam from the Jungle Brothers, jazz fusion band Lights Down Low, a live PA band called Flight 420, Jase from NameBrand, Aaron Hudson and the Metronomes, as well as many local musicians. In 2007, Sopheye, along with mc Cynic, had a tune featured on Volume 10 of KeepItClassic.com’s CD series called “Seize the Moment”.

More recently Sopheye has been working with DF mates Stereotype and George Young as the Substitutes – providing vocals for the original drum and bass music that the boys produce. She has also been working with DNB greats Will Miles, Amaning, SolID and Saburuko.
